Sump pumping is the simplest and most popular dewatering solution. In this method, pits (i.e., sumps) are dug in the working area to collect water. Sloped trenches are typically used to direct water into the pits. Submersible pumps are then used to pump out water to a discharge point. This method is particularly effective for excavations with moderate levels of water ingress.
In large excavation and working areas, multiple sumps may be used for dewatering.
